Application Process

Senior Citizens Services (SCS) awards grants on a quarterly basis to programs that serve persons 55+. Each quarter has its own funding focus area. Priority is given to programs that serve eligible seniors who live in Pinellas County.

One hard copy of the completed application (with required attachments) must be postmarked by the due date to be considered for funding. A due date falling on a holiday or weekend is extended to the next business day. The hard copy may be sent by US Mail (or other delivery service) to P.O. Box 1229, Clearwater, FL 33757-1229.

You may access the fillable pdf application on this page (above). Applications that do not use this most recent application form will be penalized.

The completed application (with required attachments) should also be submitted electronically to sheila@seniorcitizenservices.org

Letters of funding approval or non-approval are mailed to all applicants shortly after the meeting of the Board of Directors.

During the 2nd month following the due date, grant checks are presented to awarded agencies on the same date as the Board of Directors meeting, which is usually the third Tuesday of the month.

Senior Citizens Services typically awards approximately $90,000 in grants per quarter. Grants have ranged from $800 to $20,000. As the number of applications increases quarterly, the funding decisions become more challenging. Committee recommendations become final once they are approved by the Board of Directors. There is no appeal process.

Instructions for completion of a 6-month and a 12-month Impact Report are included in the award letter. Failure to submit either a 6-month or a 12-month Impact Report will affect consideration of future funding.

There are four questions that must be answered positively for an application to be sent to the committee for review. They are: Was a hard copy of the application postmarked by the due date? Is the applicant a 501(c)(3) or government entity? Will all funds be used exclusively to serve persons 55+? Is the identified focus area consistent with the current funding period? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘no,’ the application will not be considered for funding.

Please review this process every time you consider applying for funding from SCS, as there may be updates you need to know.

Please use the Application on this page every time you apply, as the application form may be updated.
